The remix video is one of my favorite videos to show
people because it brings up two good points:
- Nothing is original
- You need influence to make work
Without realizing it our work is influenced by
everything we see, even if we do not know it. Trying to claim that you are the only
person doing something is pretty hard and most likely not true. Ideas have to
come from somewhere and that somewhere is our everyday experiences. Influence is
a huge part of my work because I like taking inspiration from the world around
me. It is the way that I process what is around me and how I portray that in my
work that is unique. Currently I am taking inspiration from Haudenosaunee Culture and including that into my
work.
This brings to me a few quote from my favorite author Oscar
Wilde
No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist.
A work of art is the unique result of a unique temperament.
Art
is taking what is around your and transforming it into something else that is
unique to you and only you.
