I think that there are new ways in which art emerges into the public, but the traditional ways in which artists get their work into galleries has remained the same. Today, you can become a well-known artist without being a part of, for example, the elite Chelsea galleries scene. The internet and social media is the most obvious way in which artists, entrepreneurs, etc can make a name for themselves while reaching a larger audience. For me, Street Art is an appealing way of getting your work out into the public because it makes your work accessible to everyone, while having an impact on the community that it's in. I know that this started out slightly before the 21st century, but it is still relevant today. Street art has given the public an alternative way of looking at art than the traditional gallery setting. It has benefited the artists because they no longer have to be juried by a small group of people to be told whether or not they are good enough to be allowed into their space. Instead, the general public can be the judge by having positive or negative reactions to their work. It also benefits the population of people who either don't have access to certain galleries or feel that they don't belong amongst these highly educated individuals.
Success in terms of being a successful artist: For me, success comes in different ways. If someone (other than my mom or someone who has to like everything I make) has a positive reaction to my work, then I would feel that I succeeded. Also making money would be nice.
The meaning of life: I have to think about it....
