Amanda's Short Post About Grant Work

Yet another short post for now because of work, but I have realized this past week the struggle of reaching out to institutions to do research. For my independent study/ Take 5 shenanigans, I am hoping to work with a museum to digitize one of their works, so half of my life right now is writing the grant to get funding for this endeavor, while the other half is reaching out to institutions to get permission to access their collections. The latter part has taken a lot of convincing that this project would benefit not only the larger digital history field, but also the institution itself.
WELL, I have already received my first rejection letter. I feel this might have to do with the fact that I do not have specific connections with the institutions yet, and the fact that the museums I did reach out to are large. Perhaps it may be better to reach out to smaller institutions so that I can work one-on-one with staff and directors? (There is also the issue that it is usually the large institutions that can afford to have a 3-D reconstruction curriculum in place already.)

TLDR: Amanda struggles to make social connections.
