1.) Busy packing for the trip now while also trying to figure out a difficult computer science lab before we head out. 😞 But several things are happening this week. Tergel and I have successfully made wax hand molds, and I have to say, this was my most successful attempt at making molds, albeit the most painful as well.
2.) Hoping to finish a piece to submit for Apped Metaphors. The exhibition focuses on work involving apps in its process. For my own piece, , I created average faces of the faculty of several departments, and while I didn't have a conscious political agenda in mind with this piece, I enjoyed the idea of distilling the wibbly-wobbly notions of gender to specific mathematical ratios.
3.) Thoughts about Ewan Atkinson and The Neighborhood. I have found I enjoy the process of planning exhibitions. The Bridge Gallery is currently putting up our fall show, and we are planning an exhibit of Ewan Atkinson. That it really took convincing for him to agree to show work on AsIs made me think though. As a student, any opportunity is a blessing, by what about when you are an established artist? Can there ever be an exhibition that decreases your status or is all publicity good publicity?
Some artist's are very particular about where they show and the context under which the work is shown. It is important to make strategic choices as an artist.
