What a fun and busy couple of days. So much art, good company, cow spotting! It was magnificently enjoyable!
I suppose a quick analysis of the various museums is called for. The Clark was amazing and although I'm no Romanticist promoter, the paintings we're almost as incredible as the space they were housed in. Mass MoCA was a bit hit and miss for me, some art was outright bad (I'm not huge on a lot of contemporary art) but some of it (see below) was incredible! (Serious question. Does this time lapse of another person's work count as art, a remix, plagiarism, or some combination of the three?)
Continuing on the theme of my lack of appreciation for contemporary art, Dia Beacon was a serious disappointment for me. I had no idea what to expect and yet I expected so much more than lining their magnificent, monstrous, white walls 2' x 2' white paintings based around the idea "You're never told what to paint, always how to paint". Even Richard Serra was a bit underwhelming for me.
But Storm King was beyond amazing, like a magical playground. I'll grant that a fair number of the largest sculptures are actually kinda boring or ugly, but the fact that in two hours, only half the ground was traversed and only about a third of the sculptures seen indicates the incredible nature of this sanctuary. But the best part of this is that every sculpture felt as though it worth viewing regardless of if it connected with the viewer.
