Isabelle - Good Art Goes Past Appreciation

"Good art makes you angry- it provokes you and makes you question things"
I'll be the first to say that I'm really bad at taking notes when watching or listening things - I'll either try to write down everything and not absorb anything, or get too caught up in what I'm doing that I forget to write down any observations I may have. The only note I have from watching the Art21 video was this quote, as it provided me with some focus to my rambling thought processes.
I've found over time that it is really hard for me to identify my favorite pieces of art or artists. So many of the classic works of art that you hear about in basic art history class or see in the classic collections at famous art museums are visually appealing, but just don't really speak to me. I can appreciate the technique, the artist's time and commitment to the piece, and the visual aesthetic of the work, but it doesn't go much further than that. Some part of me feels wrong, that I'm just not too huge of a fan these classic or famous artists, so this quote made me think more about it. I don't think that it is completely correct, some of my favorite pieces have evoked other emotions rather than "oh thats nice," but it hits some truth. Good art to me is not technically perfect, or picturesque, but pieces that strike a chord with you, make you feel anguish or curiosity or anger, but can evoke other emotions in different people.
