Gabby- The Glitch

So my roommate (who I love dearly and is a Biochemistry major) posted on my wall this. Which pretty much sums up what it is like being a art major at a extremely science driven school. One of my favorite situations to deal with is the following:

“I wish my degree was as easy as yours.”

This statement make me so mad because I feel like every time some mentions "humanities major have it so easy" I want to strangle them. To give some background, I am a Environmental Studies Major with a minor in Math and History as well as a Studio Major. I have taken a wide variety of classes and let me tell you they are all difficult. There just difficult in different ways. For example, for history you are taking in a ton of information and then having to analyze it and come up with your own argument. For math classes you are trying to make sense of letters and numbers on a board that somehow end up being zero. What makes being a Studio Major difficult is that the amount of self motivation and creativeness you need in order to succeed. The amount of effort needed to come up with a conceptual and visually compelling piece is on the same amount of difficulty as proofing the rank-nullity theorem(I should since I have to be able to do both).

College is hard. Don't say my major is any easier than yours.

Moving on:

Currently I am at the experimenting part of art. Which is a polite way of saying I am trying a bunch of new things to find the one I like/work for my ideas. I tried using gel medium to make a transfer plastic like material from one of the maps and it failed epically. So I moved back to the computer to see what other images I could come up with. After a little struggle with the printer I was able to print off a few new pieces using a new glitch technique I learn thanks to the internet. Glitching has so many ways you can go it is overwhelming.

To glitch a photo you can take away information, add information, transform it or simply just mess with how the red, green, and blue channels line up in photoshop. Some are random while others you can control. I am still playing around with images, gel medium, and matt medium and there will more news to come.

Glitch is weird.

To conclude please enjoy this picture of a puppy
