No matter when, the art is not for everyone, even 40,000 years ago when people painted the first cave painting. People nowadays still scarcely understanding the meaning or the function behind those extensively primeval paintings. Since the beginning of the 21st century, I do agree that accompanied by the development of technology, the spreading of art is faster. However, the art world is even more isolated from the public nowadays. Right now, people are very hard to join in the art circle without an MFA.
In the ancient times, the art was made by people who did not need to hunt and had leisure time, and people who also had no life threats were certificate to view the arts. The art was born to be luxury and face the minority. The art circle to the public is just like how the military technology to the public. The public cannot accept the newest idea, and more important, they cannot even afford the newest thing.
Talking about the affordability, while people deem the money as the source of all evils, money literally is one of the justest thing in a capitalism society. In an idealized free market, the price contains all the information and money decides the distribution of all the capitals. Though the standard of success is varied, money will always come the people who is successful, since they bring in the newest and the most efficient ideas to the society, which leads more social resources come towards them (one basic rule of economy is effiency).
Though some people may hate that, money will still be one of the rulers that measures the meaning of one’s life. We are not talking about the one’s possession, but how much money people willing to pay for him or her. It reflects one’s value in this cold but real society.
