Having Scott visit was pretty great! I volunteered to help set-up his show and assist with installation, so I got to spend some time with him before the show. I mainly helped him clean up and pack things away, but it was still nice helping out.
Scott's 2pm talk was pretty interesting. I liked how he put in random crazy things in his presentation. ... it was refreshing and kept me on my toes. I also enjoyed that he just did an overview of his artwork and discussed a little segment of each piece. It gave me a glimpse into how multi-media his artwork is. He is not just a painter and painter alone, but an artist who works and dabbles in many different mediums. It was encouraging to see how much experimentation he does outside of painting, considering my inability to stick to one medium.
He also had a studio visit with me, where we got to look at my artwork, both my Selfie Misuse exhibition and what I'm working on with social media. Once he saw what I was working on, he recommended that I read Walter Benjamin's writing about the Aura. This was really great, because I took the time to read the essay he was talking about it and it was extremely relevant to my work right now. It helped me put into words a lot of the thoughts I had in my head about digital reproduction of artwork. I never would have stumbled upon this work by myself! So Thanks Scott!
