Loco for RoCo

Yaaaassss, love RoCoooooo!!!!! Nah, the title's a little misleading.

I really enjoyed our visit to RoCo, which I do need to go to more often. But it was really great (read: relieving) to talk with Bleu about his career. He talked about his start as an artist, shift to being an independent sort of agent for other artists, then organizing programming at various institutions, and eventually ending up at RoCo. And I love what he said, that he didn't end up where he is because he "failed as an artist".

As I start considering my future—mainly when people ask me what I want to do next year—I more and more feel that being a full-time studio artist is not something I want to do. Certainly I want to continue making art, but I do have other interests and skills that I think I could take advantage of.

And I really appreciated what Bleu said about trying things out after you graduate, "taking the long view" as he put it. That's totally what I want to do! I have a bunch of options (like working in advertisement, interning at an auction house, etc.) and I'm not sure which I'd enjoyed the most. What he talked about in running RoCo, such as catering to the clientele and setting up a calendar of events, are things I am interested in. In my mind, Bleu really elucidated some of the other options that seniors have outside of being a professional artist.
