Rebecca and The City

I don't think many would argue for Rochester being labeled as an art Mecca at this time, but I feel as though it has the makings for a truly great art town. In a city that has drastically changed from its peak, I see several signs of encouragement for the art community. From affordable real estate and areas in need of beautification with councils who want to improve them, to organizations like ROCO and MAG who are passionate for art, not to mention an abundance of artists constantly pushing one another to better themselves through healthy competition, Rochester has so many characteristics for potential success in the arts and Rebecca is a large part of that too. I found it greatly encouraging listening to Rebecca for many reasons, most of all was finding out just how strong, skillful, and determined the voice of art is for Rochester. I think having someone like Rebecca who gives a genuine interest and input, good or bad, to bring a spark to the interest in having conversations around art is one of the most important aspects to bettering the art community.

Hearing her insight on how to become more successful certainly shouldn't be overlooked either. Such a knowledgeable person, who understands the inner workings of the art community and has significant influence within it, should never be overlooked for advice. My favorite tips for Rebecca, plan ahead and advocate for yourself. It's a simple message, one we've heard many times now, but confidence is so key. Being able to acknowledge and accept that denial to any one exhibition, or a dozen, is no cause to be deterred. Nor should self-promotion, so long as it's done with some moderation, be viewed negatively. It's the means to success and the quicker these things can be learned, the higher the chance of achieving success as an artist.
